COYOTE

The coyote has always been common throughout southeast Alaska, southwest Canada, and the western United States. In recent decades, due to forest clearing and release by humans, the coyote has extended its range into most of the contiguous United States.

The coyote is a dog-like animal looking similar to a small German Shepherd or Husky but with longer fur and a shorter, bushier tail. The coyote is smaller than a wolf and larger than a fox. It has a variable hair color ranging from reddish to brown and yellowish to grey body with prominent ears, rust colored legs, and a bushy tail with a black tip. Adult coyotes are generally 3-4 feet in length and weigh 20-40 pounds.
